I picked this book up some time ago from a library free rack, partly because I expected something in the mold of Mysterious Sea Stories (Dell, 1987), and partly because it has a selection by South Carolina writer Archibald Rutledge, who's much too little known; his "The Tomb" (1947 --not supernatural fiction, though the title might suggest that!) is one of the best 20th-century stories I've ever read. Editor Nickles does mine somewhat similar territory, though she has a lot less speculative fict [...]
