    1. Simple, concise, easy to read and understand and contains a great positive parenting message. I would recommend this book to anyone who deals with children on a regular basis. Children need love, understanding and positive words to be happy and feel accepted. This book has the possibility to change your parenting life!

    2. Great book. I read it through twice and have bookmarked a bunch of comments/pages to re-read again when I need it.The book isn't too preachy and offers lots of practical strategies for raising happy children.I really enjoyed reading about the 'history' of families and childhood, it gives a good framework to understand how we have gotten to where we are. However, the book does show its age and some of the information is outdated and is sometimes based on anecdote rather than validated studies (par [...]

    5. This book doesn't say much that's different from any other gentle parenting book out there. The one tidbit that I did take was the need for physical contact throughout life and how after the nursing/carrying phase children end up losing out.

    6. A very easy read, could have been an article, not a book. We don’t get taught how to parent so we often use the same parenting style as our parents. This can be a problem since times have changed and a lot has been learnt in the art and theory of parenting. The main message is that kids thrive in later life if they have assertive but caring parents, who set reasonable boundaries firmly to make kids feel safe but also surround kids with love, which includes PHYSICAL affection. A personal insigh [...]

    7. Aporta algunes idees interessants, que trencaven (als 80, quan va ser publicat) amb l'educació estricta que van rebre els nostres pares. De totes maneres, li falta aprofundir en alguns temes, i d'altres són prescindibles.

    8. Simple and easy to read. Funny, warm and agreed with what he had to say and found things I could work on.

    9. It was interesting to go back and re-read some of the ideas in Steve Biddulph's 'classic' 'Happy Children' books in this revised edition of the first. I remember liking the follow-up book and I was surprised to dislike 'Raising Boys' quite intensely. The whole here is a generally decent thing, no longer, thankfully, quite as 'revolutionary' as popular writing as it once was and written and illustrated in a manner and length that make it more appealing to those who need it most. It is compassiona [...]

    11. Actual Rating: 2.5I started off being quite impressed by this book and found the advice very nonjudgmental and understanding of how difficult it is to raise children. However, when I got to the (outdated) chapter on child care I felt quite annoyed. I am about to put my children into child care and it is a decision that has caused me lots of grief and guilt and one I have not made lightly, but I made the decision as I have been out of the work force for two years and I WANT to go back to work. Th [...]

    12. Recommended on Peachhead, a Yahoo group for West Los Angeles families. The following is quoted from what someone wrote on Peachhead:"Most parent-child relationships suffer from the samemutual lack of communication and understanding, whichcan be a major obstacle in raising happy and healthychildren. In The Secret of Happy Children,world-renowned psychologist and family counselor SteveBiddulph gathers together over two decades ofknowledge and insight to reveal what is reallyhappening inside your k [...]

    13. Like any book about parenting you need to pick and choose from this material what you want to apply to your parenting style. While a lot of this book provides simple, practical advice that I think really could help a parent raise a 'happy child', biddulph can also be very subjective and judgemental. I made the mistake of reading his chapter on childcare the day before my boy started And couldn't unread it!! His opinions here are just that- his opinion. I'd go as far as to say skip this chapter. [...]

    14. This is one of the books that I'm addicted to; I'm currently reading it for the second time! It's so full of useful information that I always want to go back to it as a resource. It is an edition of two books joined into a real 'complete' resource; the first is The Secret of Happy Children, and the second is More Secrets of Happy Children. Steve Biddulph gives you tips on how to live a peaceful and happy life with your children, no matter how old they are, & no matter what your marital statu [...]

    15. This book has taken me ages to read due to childcare related false starts. I quite like his style of writing and this is the second book of his I've read. As with all self-help books like this you agree with some things and disagree with others. It's quite nice to hear you are doing things right even when you're only going on instinct but its also nice to hear other suggestions where you weren't quite getting things right. I got annoyed with the constant politically correct references especially [...]

    16. While I did learn some very important lessons from this book, which I've already put to good use, the authors diet recommendations toward the end are not completely correct, based on the latest nutritional science. Nevertheless, I'm glad that I read this and would recommend it to any parents who want to improve their relationship with their children. Being a parent is undoubtedly life's greatest challenge, so any additional help or advice is always welcome.

    17. This book helped me confirm a lot of stuff that I've read elsewhere and most of what Steve says is plain logical to me but perhaps we just need to be told of the same thing in a different way. I like his book for what it is - straight forward and simple.

    18. An opportunity to reflect upon your own upbringing and to consider how important language can be when communicating with children. I'm sure that I will refer back to this book again and again over the years.

    19. Great read! Lots of practical tips for parents and teachers. I'll be reading a lot more of Biddulphs work!

    20. A must read book by parents and educators, tackles the emotional intelligence side in humans, a good start

    21. I liked what Biddulph had to say, and find that his techniques agree with the Love and Logic parenting techniques I appreciate. Now to just remember these fundamentals in the trying times

    22. Fantastic book. Very insightful, practical and doable. It is never too late to change our patterns of relating to our children.

    23. The author concentrates more on what NOT to be done. I would rather read a book with more explanation and examples of what needs to be done.
