    1. Not so much a 'history' as a detached chronological commentary on Libya's economic situation. Vandewalle's written something of an infactual factbook, and I didn't come away from this feeling like I learned much at all. So many significant events and periods are glossed over and it's almost as if Vandewalle was reluctant to mention names in Libya's history, lest he have to explain who they are and their significance.
