    1. Between the Polk-Lillard book (Montessori from the Start) and this one, I think there is a stark contrast in the approach to the child. I feel Montessori is far more respectful of individual variation and developing the relationships between adults and children. I felt Polk- Lillard was so scientific in terms of her needs of the child that it left parents and children at an arms length. Polk- Lillard had more specific activity and toy recommendations, Montessori had better development and relati [...]

    2. Brilliant.Wish I had been wired to read and absorb this before I had children.A few quick notes:-A wonderful explanation for parents (and teachers) about child development through self-selected activity, mutual respect, and of course a prepared environment. -Such inspired observations about how parents sabotage themselves from the beginning. They are the cause/source of behaviors they later feel they must correct. Such profound insight on the well-intentioned domination of children by adults and [...]

    5. I have been trying to learn what I can about Montessori's approach by reading her own writing in addition to books that interpret her method. This book was not my favorite -- it is billed as a 'summary' and feels a little bit like that, like a review paper! Although it is a short, manageable length, I did not enjoy it as much as Montessori's book, "The Secret of Childhood." With that said, of course her method is brilliant and there is much to be said about the approach she highlights here. I li [...]

    7. It is a very good and MUST read for both teachers and parents.Dr. Maria Montessori discusses about the marvellous aspects of the child, of how acute observer and learner he is and how greatly advanced he is when we are least aware of it.With lots of analogies and anecdotes, she explains how the children's effort to develop individually is suppressed, how the very early child(0 - 3 ages) education is neglected and that the poor attempts to correct by adults fails at later stage. This book gives a [...]

    9. My dear friend Ann told me to read this book far before I had children, and I am so glad she did. I really enjoyed it and plan on reading many more montessori books. This book inspired me, made me appriciate how my own parents had followed her methods, and also made me examine specific things that I currently do wrong with other people's children. It wouln't be an easy read for everyone, but it is well worth it.

    10. This book is a good introduction to Montessori philosophy of educating children that follows child's inner needs as she grows and matures. Serious drawback of this enlightening book is archaic language as this translation is obviously old and I wish someone could translate Maria Montessori's books from scratch as they all have this disadvantage.
