    1. Oh how much I love Meljean Brook's Iron Seas series. The world building is so detailed, so intricate, and just awesome. This is a world full of steampunky contraptions, megaladons, airships, kraken, and more. This story focuses on Archimedes' sister Zenobia, traveling incognito as Geraldine with her friend Helene, and her bodyguards Mara and Cooper. When their airship is attacked, they are rescued and taken to Krakentown. Zenobia's rescuer is Ariq, the Kraken King. And so begins a delicious and [...]

    2. ARC provided by InterMix through NetgalleyWhenever steampunk comes up I think "Meljean Brook". I don't even know if she was the first author I've read of the genre, but she is hands-down the best. I thought I'd read all Iron Seas' books - so when I started this book, which features Zenobia Fox, Archimedes Fox's sister, I was like "what."Can you believe I spent ages lusting after Heart of Steel, bought the ebook, and then forgot about it and convinced myself I had been waiting for Riveted (which [...]

    3. Joint review on Part I and II with VictoriaKarina:What an amazing beginning of the serial! I honestly do not mind paying more for excellent writing for that - sharp, tantalizing, vivid and humorous. Zenobia and Ariq are going to be a powerful mix, one of the best couples in Iron Seas if the first installment is any indication of how it's going to proceed. *grinning* This is just their first meet and the beginning of the journey, and it's choke full of adventure and excitement. Get ready for airs [...]

    4. I am giving this 5 Stars because I loved the story. This first installment just gives you the basics of a great story and several mysteries. The heroine has many secrets and you the reader will only know a few of them, the Kraken King (one of his many titles) is more than a mayor of a town that kills a lot of the krakens. There is the beginning touches of a good romance but this short story beginning only gives us the very basics, these stories being serialized and released about a week apart migh [...]

    5. So quite frankly reading this was not a good idea in the least.I was one of the super lucky people who got this as an ARC. Part I and II were part of said ARC, and since I read gobbled up both parts in one go, I wrote a review for both of them. I simply wouldn't be able the separate the two afterwards. The good news for fans of the series. This is another fabulous addition to an already great series. The "bad"news this will be published as a serial. Which means a lot of waiting time.Because afte [...]

    6. The Kraken King Part I gives us a good introduction to the great characters of Brook's next story. While it is just the first installment in this book, we discover more about Zenobia Fox. She is finally stepping out from behind the pen of her infamous brother's adventures and taking on what she considered a lot less risky trip. Having the ship taken by air pirates, jumping from rescue flyers, plummeting into a kraken filled ocean only to be plucked up by the Kraken King himselfZenobia is about t [...]

    7. In the air and on the sea, Zenobia Fox is going to get way more adventure than she bargained for as she falls into the world of the Kraken KingI am so excited about The Kraken King stories, and as much as I am an instant gratification fan, I think the serial format is fun - and it's going to force me to savor the story instead of my usual gobbling. Another wonderful thing about getting the story in installments is not having to wait months/years for 'more' from this favorite series and since it [...]

    8. Part IWell that's certainly one way to kick off a series - by throwing your heroine headlong off an airship! Part one in this eight-part serial offers a great introduction to heroine Zenobia Fox, who immediately proves herself brave, determined, yet strangely lacking in self-confidence. We also meet Ariq, aka The Kraken king, who was in the right place at the right time and offers refuge to our plucky heroine and crew. Sexual tension is rife between the pair, but trust is another matter. And the [...]

    9. Steam punk at its finestZenobia Fox is in dead mysterious. I wonder what else she's hiding. I guess we'll have to read the next installment to find out what our brilliant heroine will do.

    10. I love this authors steampunk books sssoooooooo much. I had to reread The Iron Duke to get another fix after this.Ok what can i say I just reread thisrereading again

    11. Review posted: Happily Ever After - ReadsBlog rating: A-His [Ariq] voice lowered. “On the flyer, I liked the feel of you against me. Now I’d like to feel you beneath me.” (…) “Is this a condition of us staying in this town?” A frown darkened his face. “No. I ask because I would enjoy it.” Of course he would. He was a man. It was common knowledge that they always did. She [Zenobia] pursed her lips. “But would I enjoy it?” He gave a short laugh that spread into a grin. “If yo [...]

    12. I love the Iron Seas series by Meljean Brook and was so excited to get Part 1 of the Kraken King to review through NetGalley. The Kraken King is being released in 8 parts as a serial novel. The first release will be April 15th, then the books will release periodically until Part 8 releases on June 3rd. I read part 1 and really enjoyed it. I just love this world so much. The story features Zenobia Fox (the sister of Archimedes Fox) as she goes on her first real adventure on her own. She is suppose [...]

    13. Even if this is the fourth book in the Iron Seas series, I didn't feel lost jumping into THE KRAKEN KING. After much research, the common denominator of the series is the setting as all the stories happen in this naval steampunk universe Meljean Brooks created. Aside from a few character connections here and there, every Iron Seas book features a different couple with their own story arc so each installment is a fresh story. I may be speaking too soon but so far, I think I can get away with read [...]

    14. Review posted at Got Fiction? book blogI love Meljean Brook’s Iron Seas series, and only for her would I read a serial. This is part one, The Kraken King and the Scribbling Spinster. Here we have Zenobia Fox, Archimedes Fox’s sister, who in her longing for adventure, accompanies a friend (Helene) to Australia. But their airship is attacked, and for someone who has been kidnapped four times, Zenobia is always ready for a fifth kidnapping.Ariq is the governer of Krakentown, and has a reputation [...]

    15. The most gut wrenching thing about this book is that I don't have part 2 in my hands right now. That sound you hear? That would be the quiet sound of my despair. Yep, rocking and crying in the corner. That's me. Because it's really, really, REALLY hard to tear myself away from a Meljean Brook book with KRAKENS and AIRSHIPS and PLANS OF AN UNKNOWN NATURE.But I must.So. Zenobia. She just wants to have a little adventure. You know, like the ones she writes about in her books. The ones her brother h [...]

    16. I absolutely loved part one of The Kraken King and am dying to read the rest of the story. To be totally honest, I cannot get enough of the Iron Seas series. This one started out with a bang, Zenobia decides it is time for her own adventure and jumps at the chance to go on a voyage to Australia. She definitely got her wish she is faced with danger and thrills from the beginning of the adventure. Due to several past incidents of being kidnapped, Zenobia has taken on the identity of Geraldine Inks [...]

    17. Steampunk romance, hmmmmm?Well, it was free, it was a 'teaser' and I thought I'd give it a try, since the author has some good reviews.Overall: I liked it! It's not just romance; there's some good action going on here.Geraldine and Helene are traveling via airship to reunite with Helene's husband. Geraldine is incognito - she doesn't want anyone to know she's the popular adventure author Zenobia Fox - OR who her secret-agent brother is. After all, she's been kidnapped multiple times before. (I a [...]

    18. Intriguing beginning! It's my first steampunk novel and I really enjoyed it. Full review to come. Now I'm off to the next book! You can read a more detailed joint review of Part I and II on my blog - elliereadsfiction

    19. Oh I'm totally counting each part as read separately. TAKE THAT "YOU'RE 17 BOOKS BEHIND ON YOUR READING GOAL".

    20. My Rating: A- Enjoyed A Lot (4.5 Stars)Originally posted at That's What I'm Talking AboutReview copy provided by publisher - also purchased with own funds! The first part of The Kraken King introduces readers to our two main characters: Zenobia and Ariq. Zenobia Fox, author of the famous Archimedes Fox adventures, is traveling to Australia with a childhood friend and wife of an ambassador, Helene Auger. While making the trip, Zenobia keeps an alternate identity that she is the widow, therefore al [...]

    21. Zenobia Fox a famous writer and the sister of the famous explorer Archimedes Fox, not that she would openly admit it though, it would only lead to yet another kidnapping where her brother would once again have to save her. But now she has the potential to have her own adventure whilst she accompanies her friend to Australia, not that she expects much to happen. Of course her journey takes an interesting turn when her ship is attacked and she is rescued by none other than Ariq, more popularly kno [...]

    22. I got this book via NetGalley. I don't like to read serial books until the series is completed and I can read the entire thing. I hate to wait for bits to be doled out. That being said, Meljean Brook books are like crack to me, and so I simply couldn't pass up the chance to read part I of the Kraken King, even knowing it would absolutely kill me to not have the rest of it. And sure enough, I am totally jonesing for the rest of the book now, now, NOW!It is lovely to be getting a book focused on Z [...]

    23. Now this is what I'm interested in. A questionable anti-hero who is a rebel and may be fighting for the good of his people, how can a romantic resist? Ariq is known as the Kraken King. He lives in a place where people are left alone. This is a protective community for those who are of all sorts of backgrounds. When Ariq's home is attacked in a manner which makes no sense, he begins his investigation. While trying to figure out what is going on, Zenobia Fox drops into his lap. Zenobia is a writer [...]

    25. 3.4My first experience with series books, I was a bit confused by the sort length of this tidbit tease. After I figured it out, that the book is released in short installments quicker than waiting for the whole novel I warmed to the idea. The price is about the same and the wait is much shorter=bonus. I still would prefer to have the whole book in hand but if I have addiction issues to the story I want it asap and this would be a much nicer way than waiting a year or more.Zenobia the strong will [...]

    26. This is painful. Not the novella, to be clear. The fact that it's part one of many, and now I'm stuck not knowing the rest of the story for who knows how long.Meljean Brook is one of those authors that I love, but I forget exactly how much until I read her again. And this is classic Brook. Adventure, secrets, steamy passion, and lots of steampunky goodness. If you've read The Iron Seas series, you'll know Zenobia Fox. She's the novelist sister of adventurer/treasure hunter Archimedes Fox, and sh [...]

    27. I liked this first installment in the serial, but I just think serials are not really my jam. I just want a complete book. This kind of bums me out because I love that serials have come back, since they're such an old school thing. I guess if I want a short does, I'd prefer a short story or novella. From what I read, I think this will be a solid installment in this series. I really was intrigued by Zenobia, and love her inquisitive nature. The world building continues to be A+ as well. One last no [...]

    28. Okay, I am going to say this first. I love the Iron Seas world, and anything related to it is an autobuy for me. And I know this was set up as an episodic read, just like the stories that the main character Zenobia Fox writes. But I want it all now! With that rant out of the way, I thought this first installment was set up nicely. Zenobia is looking for a little adventure, just like the stories she writes about her brother's life. And obviously she finds it.I enjoyed the introduction of the male [...]

    29. Wowweee! This author knows how to take world history and turn it on its head I love how she's done the insta-attraction between Ariq and Zenobia- no it's not yet love, and it's not just thinking-dirty-thoughts-all-the-time lust. Refreshingly, whatever this fascination is, Ariq wants to embrace it with both handsOnto the next part
