    1. Throughout the other three novellas in this series, Charlotte is always baking, or just about ready to start baking, and I was becoming more curious about her story. While the other women seem to have managed to get away reasonably scot-free from their backgrounds in England, Charlotte is not so lucky. Her jilted fiancé follows her to New York, and it turns out he's not the pleasant young man everyone thought him to be.Detective Noble is a fascinating character all his own, and his agonies over [...]

    2. Another good book in the Martini Club 4 Series. This book has romance, drama and murder. Set in the 1920’s, Lady Charlotte and three of her friends leave England and head to New York. Lady Charlotte (Charli) is running away from an arranged marriage that she wants no part of. Charli wants to bake, but in these days no one wants to hire a female. So, she gets a job serving drinks at Club 501. When her fiancé shows up and tries to drag her back to England, things take a disastrous turn. Detecti [...]

    3. The Roaring Twenties provides an exciting backdrop for the murder and action in this short novella. Part of the Martini Club 4 series, this story focuses on Charli, a runaway noblewoman. She's trying to get away from the arranged marriage her parents had planned for her and the New York speakeasy is far away from the privileged lifestyle she left. But her past catches up to her, and that's when the action begins

    4. IN SEARCH OF THEIR DREAMSI enjoyed this 1920s story that is part of a series written by four authors, yet each story can read well as a standalone and even better when read together. Four socialite ladies determined to pursue their own dreams sail from England to the United States on the Empress of India. The plot of this story is a combination murder with mystery and suspense. Lady Charlotte “Charli” Leighton is escaping a marriage arranged by her parents to Geoffrey Hare. Her dream is to o [...]

    5. I loved Charli as a character: caught in a dead-end job she hates, trying to figure out how to make her dreams come true, needing her own space from her family. I found the love story a bit of a stretch, a little too far fetched somehow, and I would have loved to have seen more about Charli’s work to get her own bakery. But I loved the writing and found it very thematically in keeping with the set. So overall, definitely a happy read!
