    1. I loved this work. I picked it up after hearing it praised many times by brilliant men such as Montaigne and several ancient Romans. I now see why. I'm looking forward to the remaining volumes, though, having read many long works in the past (e.g. Gibbon's, "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" & Tolstoy's, "War and Peace", Dana "Two Years Before the Mast"), I know I am going to face the same bittersweet feeling when done, as I must say farewell to the old author's ghost, whose mind I have [...]
