    1. This collection of "emerging writers" profoundly lacks any writers outside of academia, yet the introduction boasts of giving voice and recognition to writers on the outside looking in; however, upon reading the 50 writers' bios, every contributing writer holds a MFA degree, particularly from prestigious universities, along with the vast majority holding teaching jobs at various 4-year universities across the country. I guess I just don't see the diversity of voice in such credentials.

    2. I enjoyed every poem in this book. The entire collection has a dark vein running through it. It is a good, fast read. Alysia Nicole Harris' poem "Crow's Sugar" is certainly a stand out.

    4. Why do I keep buying these books? (To see what modern poets write.) Poems like these make no sense and reek of pretension.
