    1. 4stars mainly for its information on such a ghastly war. How did people actually go through that experience. no wonder my grandparents hated war so much. the story lie really didn't live up to 4 stars. It was all a bit piecemeal with a lot of little plots with little attempt to bring this together into one composite narrative. bit like the war really.

    2. Part two of Stewart Binns' Great War series follows the tone set by book 1 (The Shadow of War). Hitting the same notes, and eliciting the same emotions this is another great book by Binns. This series warrants reading by all those who have any interest in the 'Great War' and the devastation it caused around the globe, and especially in the UK (the main focus of this bookseries)

    3. Oh ugh. I thought the first book was okay - not outstanding, but okay - but this one was just dreadful IMO and I couldn't finish it. I slogged through 20% and gave up out of sheer boredom.
