    1. I found Brasseaux's book quite interesting. Learning a little about Louisiana's past gave me a new appreciation for the area and the people who paved the way here. Unfortunately, like too many historical non-fiction books, French, Cajun, Creole, Houma: A Primer on Francophone Louisiana was a very, very dry read. I'm not sure if this was a published doctoral thesis by the author, but it certainly reads that way. It was still quite interesting to me and would be so to anyone interested in the topi [...]

Brasseaux is a noted expert on Louisiana studies, and this little primer packs a lot of information into its 159 pages.Brasseaux also provides an annotated bibliography at the end for those who wish for additional information in particular areas of study.It's a scholarly read, and thus can be a little dry.
