    1. This was fun. I had fun reading this. This is a fantasy version of Groundhog Day. Every time Suburu, our main character, dies, he goes back to a certain period in time and gets to try it all again. He's a bit slow on the uptake, though, so it takes a while for him to figure this out and decide to take advantage of his newfound ability. This is a fantasy comedy with a lot of death and fighting mixed in. Be prepared for limbs to get hacked off (as if the prologue doesn't make that perfectly clear), [...]

    2. I'm not going to write up a full, super-detailed review here. Very much like manga, I enjoy writing those for light novels once I've finished the series, or I'll write a shorter version of one if I DNF the series for whatever reason. I DO NOT recommend reading the blurb about this book at all. Unfortunately, there are spoilers in the synopsis that take away a huge chunk of the suspense element that the introduction volume tries to create. Because I read the snippet prior to jumping in, I found m [...]

    3. My first light-novel and I loved it! It was fun, though incomplete. I would give it 5 stars but due to incompleteness, I can't. It was not even 1\10 of the whole story, however, it was fun most of the times.Plot- 4/5Fantasy, magical worlds are overused, still I love reading this kind of stories. The story wasn't deep, as it is only the first volume, but constant adventure was enjoyable. Half-elves, spirits, magic and swordsmen it was delicious! Characters-5/5loved all the characters. Main charac [...]

    4. Bad writing is bad writing. It is inescapable. No story is so primitively authentic as to be above the error of the untalented or the lazy. RE: ZERO: STARTING LIFE IN ANOTHER WORLD, whatever the logic of its origin, fails to initiate the whimsical if not blind adventure it claims lies at the heart of all RPG narratives by succumbing to heedless overwriting, redundant storytelling tropes, and decidedly boring and unoriginal story dynamics. RE: ZERO is not a good book. This is supposed to be a nove [...]

    5. I've been wanting to read this ever since this was announced. Ilove love lovetime loop stories.Unfortunately my excitement coupled with my paranoia that there be water bugs in my houseagainmay have caused me to be unable to put the book down, and not in that fun I'm so interested in what I'm reading way.It was like I was feverish and I'm honestly surprised I remember anything. What a waste. But what I do remember I mostly liked. Time loops are awesome. I'm crazy biased and there's no way I could [...]

    6. This was not a good book. The premise appeals to genre fans: A Japanese layabout is swept away to a fantasy world, encounters beautiful but deadly women, and has to survive by his wits and magical ability to start over again from the same moment every time he dies. Unfortunately, the story also featured stilted English, awkward phrasing, tautological terminology, and an uncomfortable lack of polish. I give it two stars instead of one because there were great concepts hidden behind the tortured t [...]

    7. SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD. READ WITH CAUTION.I'm not entirely happy with this book. The story was ok, and the premise is actually interesting, but it gets really tiresome to see the main character doing the same mistakes and coming back to the same point, repeating everything at least three times, I was getting desperate. And when the story finally moved forward and it seemed that they would get past the same point, I thought the villain was just too much. I know this is a fantasy setting, I know fan [...]

    8. Four Stars! I love Re:Zero so much. It was super nice to read this. đź’™This light novel covers the first arc of the anime. I watched the anime before reading this, so I knew what was going on already. I actually really enjoyed this to know what was going on in Subaru's head. I disliked Subaru as a character from just watching the anime, but after reading the novel I feel quite fond of him.

    9. Re: Zero is a fun story. It manages to embrace the anime fantasy genre while remaining very self-aware and even a little spoofy. It makes no attempt to hide the inspiration it received from anime such as Magic Knight Rayearth, Escaflowne, and Now and Then, Here and There. If you're looking for a fantasy story that pokes fun at its forebearers while still remaining serious, Re: Zero is for you. It was even popular enough to receive anime and manga adaptations. However, it does have an annoying fla [...]

    12. If you don't want the text version and would prefer watching my youtube video, please click on Re Zero Review.I just finished reading volume 1 of the Re Zero – Starting Life in Another World light novel series, and I can I just say holy shit? While I was slightly disappointed with certain aspects of the light novel, it was overall one of the more satisfying reads. For those of you who've watched the anime, you'll know the basics. Natsuki Subaru is a NEET, which stands for Not in Education, Empl [...]

    13. I love the anime this book series is based on butIt was hard to get through this novel. Its hard to know if its the writer or the translator here, and the use of passive voice so constantly throughout just made me want to throw this book across the room and stop. The only reason I didn't this time is cause I happened to buy this book new. Also, I'm a pretty firm believer in the preservation of book items, no matter how much I might detest them. Besides only peeving me with the overuse of passive v [...]

    16. This was a very exciting book. I was jumping every time I read a paragraph. There were plot twists that I probably would have never seen. I was interested in every redo the main character had, I thought that the new actions made were better. I liked how he learned from past mistakes but ended up sometimes not enough. At the end of the story, it was exhilarating to see his past experiences coming up to help him.

    17. Read the entire thing at a bookstore in 3 hours to reward myself for an overall great mid-semester. The story was pretty good, but of course I did rush through it so I could get home. A little bit more sophisticated than your typical light novel. Hoping to see more polished style that can deem it between a light novel and literature as this concept is extremely interesting if utilized right. Can't wait to read volume two!

    18. This book handled most character traits very well and we could tell that behind each character there's something the author wants us to know. This feeling is portrayed very well in the book and not only that but the story progression has a lot of ways to go because of the unique ability the main character is given.

    19. It was fun to read, not much to say about this first one, time loop or re spawning from a save point is the main characteristic, we don’t get to know why or how and it doesn´t really matter for the plot, the main character just wants to do something so he does it, even if takes him a few times to figure out what´s going on.

    20. I am really surprised how much I enjoyed this! It's written so well and they characters are so well thought out that they seem alive! I love the way every time Subaru dies he uses his knowledge to better himself they next time; even if it doesn't always work. really looking forward to reading the rest of the series

    22. This is not the first of "starting life in another world" trope light novels I've read, but it is one of the most original. Bonus points for not going the cheating, ahem, easy route most light novels of this trope use- this volume is totally free of the RPG-like point and leveling system common in light novels.

    23. The first few episodes of the Re:zero anime were pretty boring, but then the series got a lot better later on. This novel wasn't all that great, but my guess is that the light novels like the anime will get better.

    25. This was my first step into modern light novels. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I expected this to be as bad as most American young adult novels but there was a really amazing story here.

    26. Awesome story (biased by the anime) buried underneath mediocre writing/translation (also the reason why it took me over a year to finish it). The anime does a way better job.

    27. 2 stars for about 70 pages then 4 stars. this book was slow slow slow to start but got a lot better.
