    1. While working in the library at Madison Elementary, I was 'reading' the biography shelves, making sure books were in order. There was only ONE biography in the "Qs". So I had to read it.The Daring Miss Quimby was amazing, and I just now learned about her. The first American woman to earn a pilot's license 1910. The first woman to fly across the English Channel. She had the bad luck of timing to have done this as the TITANIC was lost she never got the notice she hoped. And she was probably one of [...]

    2. A fresh look at aviation history through the lens of a lessor known female pilot whose spunk and adventurous spirit captured the imagination of the public and provides students with a look at the dangers of early flight and the adoration the public showered on these pioneering women.

    3. We've all heard lots about Amelia Earhart and her high-flying achievements. Did you know that Harriett Quimby was the first woman in the United States to earn her pilot's license. She quickly became a hit at the airshows touring the country. She had a special purple satin flight suit made so she would stand out even more. Her story is filled with amazing feats and pure determination to go after your heart's desire. Unfortunately her dreams were tragically cut short but her life inspired many fem [...]

    4. Technically a children's book, this biography of Harriet Quimby has pretty watercolors that try to capture the joie de vivre of Quimby and the era in general. There's also a great black and white photo in the back with an author's note and a list of resources (for the adults to get a little more info). Still, like everything I've ever read about Quimby, this book sells her short. I don't know exactly how it would be done, but surly someone who had this exciting a life could have that translate t [...]

    5. A story about Harriet Quimby,(1912) the first woman in the United States to earn her pilot's license. When everyone told her it was too dangerous, did she believe them? When she was told that only men flew these scary machines, did she listen? I think not, Harriet loved the attention and to get even more, she designed a purple flight suit to stand out in a crowd. Harriet soon became famous. I would recommend this for grades 4 - 6.

    6. A nicely illustrated biography about an amazing woman who made history in 11 short months. The ending was pretty abrupt, though.

    7. Good introduction to this interesting and lively aviator, famous for her purple flying suit. Accident that took her life was sad.

    8. This is definitely a little known name in the history books and this biography does a great job of presenting her in a format that kids could handle.

    9. Very introductory biography of the 2nd women pilot and fearless adventurer. Minimal content but well done illustrations. Not very creative and one of the illustrations didn't match the text.
