    1. I won this on . This is the second book in The Wolf Chronicles, and it is told from Kaala's perspective, who happens to be a wolf. An attempt to bring wolves and humans together, living in harmony, has not worked out in the past, but Kaala finds herself in the position to try, along with the help of a select few wolves as well as Tlitoo, a raven who is more than he seems. But there is a problem. A Greatwolf named Milsindra is out to destroy any hope Kaala has of succeeding as well as vying for l [...]

    4. My rating: 3.5I came across Dorothy Hearst's Secrets of the Wolves without having read the previous book in the trilogy, and found a lot to like in this engaging tale that fictionalizes that elusive period in prehistory where the domestication of dogs began. Hearst tells this story from a wolf's point of view, which is just wonderful. She postulates an active effort on the part of wolves to become 'friends' of humans, while weaving a larger web of conflicting interests, both human and wolfish, a [...]

    5. Secrets of the Wolves is a great read for lovers of fantasy and paranormal stories. I read the first book in this series, but the author provides enough background in Book 2 (without being cumbersome) that you can jump on into the series. The author did a wonderful job portraying the wolves "talking" in the story, but you don't lose the fact that they are wolves. Kaala is a wonderfully flawed character. She's not perfect, but it makes her more endearing. The action picks up in Book 2 and I can't [...]

    6. I just couldn't put this book down, it's almost five in the morning and I have to be up soon to see my child off to school but it couldn't be helped. I was pissed how it ended and really can't wait for the third book to make it's way to me. Gah, one of the best series I've read ever!

    7. Mini Review: A solid second novel. This one definitely improves on the first as far as the writing goes. The plot thickens and the characters have really grown since the beginning of the first book. Looking forward to seeing how this trilogy finishes out!

    8. I loved this book. I am glad I won it from a giveaway. I really enjoyed this book. Its a book that I will read time and again. I was drawn to this bookk from the very first page. I highly suggest this book. It was better then the first book, which I also enjoyed.

    9. This book should have been called "Everyone's a jerk: Wolf edition" Because honestly, so many of the characters in this book are jerks. So this story picks up after the first one left off. The greatwolves give the wolves another chance to live with the humans after the events of the first book, but then, it turns out that they don't WANT them to succeed and try to sabotage them. Umwait. what? The greatwolves seemed more of a kind of almost magical being in the first novel full of reverence and aw [...]

    10. Loved itThis was the second in the series. I have truly loved them both. I am looking forward to the last one in the series

    11. Interesting on a number of levels. I learned a lot about wolves and Native American lore. Well written and a joy to read.

    12. Sigh, I don't know what it is about this book that bothers me, but it was so hard to get through. I had such a hard time getting into it. I love, and I mean love, wolves, but somehow there is just too much lore, rules, politics, exposition, history, ghosts, gods, magic powers, you name it in this series and it's annoying. The story does pick up a bit towards the end, but is still hampered by the fact that I can barely keep track of Kaala's to do list. She constantly has a million things to do, a [...]

    13. In Secrets of the Wolves, Kaala and her pack mates have to find a way to live in harmony with the humans in the valley. Her worthiness to her pack as well as the lives of both the wolves and the humans are at stake. However, not everyone sees it that way and she encounters many obstacles and distractions on her journey. "Told from the wolf's point-of-view and set 14,000 years ago in a time when the cultures of wolves and humans were not so different", the book takes the reader on a unique journe [...]

    14. Rated 3.5*The second installment in the “Wolf Chronicles” trilogy by Dorothy Hearst, follows the continuing struggles of a young wolf named Kaala, in her attempt to have wolves work with humans.Right from the start things change for Kaala as once again it appears as the Great Wolves are withholding information or some are working against her. On top of that she gets some information about here exiled mother, in the form of a request to meet her outside the valley so that she can give here da [...]

    15. After preventing the fight between human and wolf, Kaala is now given a year time to live in peace with the humans of the Wide Valley. But keeping this peace proves much harder than previously thought. One of my favourite books! With plenty of unexpected twists, Hearst manages to keep the reader captivated. Especially with that cliffhanger ending, having to wait for the final book to come out (which I had to as I read the book when it came out first) is a pain. Our characters are still very good. W [...]

    16. Before this book, I never really liked wolves. I thought wolves were dangerous and kind of uncontrollable, I guess. When I first found this book, about three years ago, I was at the Denver Public Library. I was with my summer camp, and me and my friend could finally look at the adult section of the library. I thought this book would be a boring, sad love story like a lot of the books around there. I pulled it out to read the summary on the back, and didn't expect it to actually be about wolves. I [...]

    17. Secrets of the Wolves (Wolf Chronicles Book 2) Summary: Three months after preventing a bloody war in the Wide Valley and swearing to the Greatwolf Council that she can prove wolves and humans can live together peacefully, Kaala must figure out how to make good on her promise. Joining the wolves and the humans is a daunting task, and for Kaala it is further complicated by a message from her long missing mother and the growing need to protect TaLi from quarrels between and within the human tribes [...]

    19. Secrets of the Wolves left off where the last book ended. Kaala is till trying to unite the humans with the wolves and the Great Wolves are still trying to thwart her. This time though, there are many secrets the Great Wolves have hidden and its up to to Kaala to find them and keep the humans and wolves from warring with each other and destroying all that is in the Wide Valley.Kaala and her pack are back and really not much has changed. Kaala is still regarded as Drelshik (unlucky) and is shunne [...]

    21. Secrets of the Wolves by Dorothy Hearst is not worth 10.99$ for Kindle. The story starts off plodding along and continues from there. Considering how often the wolves are racing here and racing there, it's confusing that the story failed to get anywhere quicker than an amble.Kaala, the main wolf character, is not particularly likable. Not because she has any bad qualities, but because I don't identify with her very well. She doesn't emote very much, and when she does she changes her moods back to [...]

    22. “Hearst writes convincingly and engagingly of lupine behavior, and the interactions among wolves and wolfpacks never fail to captivate.” --Publishers Weekly“A vivid, enchanting tale of friendship, trust and adventure.” --Kirkus, on Promise of the Wolves“Clearly, Hearst has done prodigious research, and her story is infused with a great depth of understandingHer lupine cast [is] both captivating and believableWith its engaging blend of animal science and mythology, and a strong environm [...]

    23. I liked this book a little less than the previous one, but it was still good. The reason I liked it less is a cumulation of little things, not because of anything big. I always get a little annoyed when characters keep secrets and then blame another character later on for not blindly obeying them and thereby ruining the secret-keeper's plans. There was quite a bit of that going on, particularly on the part of the Greatwolves. Also, I didn't like Kaala's submissiveness towards the humans. The hum [...]

    24. “Secrets of the Wolves” by Dorothy Hearst, published by Simon & Schuster.Category – Fiction/LiteratureThis is the second in the trilogy “The Wolf Chronicles”.Kaala, the young female wolf, has been entrusted with bringing together wolves and humans so that they can live in harmony. However, as we know from the first book, Kaala is being opposed not only by other wolves in the territory but also humans who do not want to see this happen.Kaala’s has found help in a young Indian girl [...]

    25. Mandatory follow up to the author's Promise of the Wolves and the story is not complete yet. There is undoubtedly a third novel in the works. Enough is now unfolded so we can see the overall shadow of the plan, but I'll not spoil anything. Hearst has done major research into the evolution of wolves as well as their behaviors and social structures. Protagonist Kaala, who narrowly missed being killed at the beginning of the first book and is still treated as a sort of pariah by many of her peers, [...]

    26. I was able to read this lovely book because I won it through the GoodReads First Reads program. I enjoyed the viewpoint from the wolves. I think the story line is very nice and doesn't drag. I didn't really like that the main wolf character had 3 different names, I liked Kaala but I also understood that it would've affected the story if all the humans had known her name when they couldn't speak ot each other. Kaala is somewhat idealistic and yet she has enough courage and guts to stand up for wh [...]

    27. Where to start? This books have too many problems.First and foremost is the focus on politics.Too much centered on in that to be funnye second point is the romance subplots have two of them and both are bad; one of them is of dominance and the other unfinished because the boy have to go to his mission. And the girl is I know where to start, the problem is in there is no end to that stupiditye third point is all the talking to go outside the valley and that goes to no nowhere. That was the solutio [...]
