    1. "When a hummingbird leaves the ground and hovers magically in the air, ladies and gentlemen, its wings can fly almost seventy times per second, so fast that the wings are meaningless blur to anyone watching. If you were to take a picture of a hovering hummingbird, you'd still only see that blur beside its body. Only when a picture is snapped with a very expensive, very high-speed camera can its wings be fully seen in mid-movement - one split second capture in a haze of rapid motion, a single ima [...]

    2. I first encountered this author’s work quite by accident. I’d just got a new podcast app for my phone and, wanting something to download, I searched for something like ‘horror’ (as one does) and one of the first results was the Knifepoint podcast, which is composed of stories written and narrated by the writer of this book. I pulled the first few episodes and quickly became hooked; I wrote more about that cast here. And then I began searching for something else by the same person and I fo [...]

    3. The National Museum of Romance in Tristia, New Jersey, is closing its doors and auctioning off its holdings. A mysterious bidder arrives, willing to risk everything he has to acquire Lot 30, a small golden key. Interspersed with the bidder's story are smaller, flash-fiction type short pieces describing the histories of individual love mementos in the museum. This has some of the vibe of Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Boo [...]

    4. Great idea that could have been the sweetest, most uplifting feel-good book of the century. However, the author goes exactly in the opposite direction, unfolding a tale more melancholy than any I've ever read. I'm not saying that's bad, but it's just not my preference. And I was totally hanging in there with the story because it is told in an interesting way, but I was dropped cold at the end of the book. I was hoping for answers and never got them.
