    1. For years I've heard of the Lives of Plutarch and was aware that they are biographies by Plutarch from the classical Greek and Roman age, but I'd never gotten around to trying to read them. This abridged version caught my eye on the library shelf, and I've enjoyed reading the first half of the book comprising the lives of six Greeks: Lycurgus, Aristides, Cimon, Pericles, Alcibiades, and Alexander.The book quickly inspires two comments: People were so different then! -- and -- People were so much [...]

    2. I'm new around here and am not quite sure about how to deal with editions - mine is the one in The Great Books of the Western World, 1952 ed in 1 vol.; might be a different translator. I have already read some excerpts for some college research (that I remember now, Numa Pompilius and Lycurgus, and some passages alluded to by Hamilton-Madison-Jay in the Federalist Papers) several years ago, and now look forward to read it as a whole.
